Neil Young. After The Gold Rush [23 Nov 2005|12:58am]
I was lyin' in a burned out basement
With a full moon in my eyes
I was hopin' for a replacement
When the sun burst through the skies
There was a band playin' in my head
And I felt like getting high
Thinkin' about what a friend had said,
I was hopin' it was a lie
Thinkin' about what a friend had said,
I was hopin' it was a lie

this from the song after the gold rush. Ive been on a major Neil Young trip for some time now.
It all probably started when my dear sister put Dont let it bring you down on my Shuffle.
also a drunken upstairs neighbour brought me Youngs best of cd along with lots of southern rock.
I spent most of learning Neil Young songs while I was at home recovering from the operation on my ankle(last time I guess I lied when I said it was my knee... sorry. anyway)also I repaired one guitar for a friend and
she was pleased enough to give me a gift certificate to a recordstore where I bought 2 books, an Iggy
Pop biog, and Jimmy McDonoughs Shakey,a Neil Young biography which was one of the best biographies ive
read.

How about you ? [23 Nov 2005|12:55am]
I once started writing about all stuff I go through every day. While it felt that nothing worth of interest happened to me, I kept writing anyway. I wrote for two months or so. Few weeks ago I read my notes and saw much more in the words than I had when I wrote them.

So I guess Ill try my best to write more often.

Hi everyone on my short but great friends list,if you have nothing better to do you could write about...
How are you ? What have YOU been upto while i was away ?
would be nice to know you a little better. including you dear sister.

Had i remembered how, i would placed a cut here, cause im going to ramble some senseless stuff about music.
so feel free to stop here.

Couple of weeks ago we played with a trumpet player whose name was Frank. hearing a trumpet just brought a stupid happy grin to mine and Mikas face . we kept telling him how cool it sounded like... to the point of him looking more than a little annoyed. The guy who played drums ,Joona, brought Frank along. J.was acting funny that evening, talking all the time, repeating stupid stuff constantly and so on. and he also brought lots of beer for himself and offered nothing to Frank, who had none, who looked more than a little left out so I offered him some. J. also suggested that I should buy a bass amplifier cause there isnt any. mind you I ve brought the two guitar amps that we use. also the guy suggested that he could use some time alone on the drums in our space. So now my dilemma is how to continue playing with Frank and forget the J.problem or at least heavily modify his manners.Cause believe me he is ANNOYING !

Have a nice day tomorrow

My past and future crimes. [22 Sep 2005|11:54pm]
Tomorrow im gonna be operated on... There are something like 7 or 8 screws and a metalplate in my knee, and tomorrows the day of removal.
I got the screws as a result of breaking my leg during a short vacation from the army two years ago.

To anyone possibly reading this, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT go to the army. Going to the army is something that you have to do in Finland,
if you go to civilservice you have to be there for like 13 months. In the army you could get three different "sentences" 6 months, nine months and Last
but certainly not least : fuckin one year of your life. I tried to get out in six months but had to stay for twelve months. in the end i only won like one month
so I guess It made really no difference.

Have a Nice Day

Robert

My rehearsal space. [11 May 2005|11:19pm]
Today I rented a share of a room that is used by two other bands, Kina and Garage Flower. I cant yet put the feeling i have into words except that im extremely happy. I ve spent the last couple of years playing in different kinds of crappy places that have had a strict time limit and only one day per week to play and also spent months with no place to play at all. So this feels kind of like a reward for all the hard times.

The practise space is in the center of the city, In the basement of an old huge apartment building.
The stairs that lead to the room are narrow, very steep and worn down by the feet of previous bands and the people who used this space before there were any bands.
Next up is a big white (or blue or red or br..cant really remember) door, (of the metallic variety). When the door opens you are welcomed by the smell ,which is a combination of old cigarettes, wood , decaying paper and the sweat brought by countless times people have aspired to better themselves and have fun.

When the lights turn on, your eyes are overwhelmed by hundreds of details that fight for your attention, bits and pieces of drums, a complete set, roadcases for guitars. old amplifiers , efx pedals, empty bottles , old oriental looking carpets, old setlists and posters( in various sizes and colours) taped all over the room, writings on the wall, bottlecaps, and a second doorway that leads to a bigger room. Then i noticed that the whole room was made of wood and when I walked to the next room I saw that the first room was built inside the bigger room. there are a couple of sofas bookending the room that includes more equipment,
stereos and a beatenup coffee table and some chairs .

we decided the place where the drums are going to be . ,in the corner with amps flanking the set. It was then that it hit me . Amplifiers narrow and steep stairs = some fun to be had.

left the room and went home , I was listening to Niandra LaDes on the way home, and thought how its an incredible album, one that pretty much divides people into to distinct groups. The first group likes the record and the other consists of people that cant either stand listening to Frusciantes singing or find the music too strange. My whole day was changed my new favorite item. Listening to music- ,allday long ,inside and outdoors, while eating or discussing the fine details of woodworking and bone bridge saddles, setting up the vibratobar on my red dear,to going up and down the escalators in the subwaystations- feels so good and I get the feeling of being slightly out of place,as if everything surrounded,is staged for a movie, so I catch myself absent mindedly just staring at different people and the scenes they infinitely create - Its kind of like having a random soundtrack being built for every moment of your life.

Tomorrows going to be probably even better since I know less than half of the music my dear sister programmed into the shuffle( ThankyouThankyouThankyou)this evening.
Just remembered that tomorrow ive got this self development course that the woodworking place forces everyone to attend . Itll be about acting and mainly focus on improvising. I guess i shouldnt make clear how much I dislike the idea , but to just try and have a good time even if it seems hard
to do.Because i seem to think that one can learn something new about well, just about anything while just going with the flow.from home to the subway, from subway to the train , from the train to the bus and so on til Im back home.

Yesterday we tried to record some pieces with Jukka in his room.we didnt get much done, some little pretty bits that i just about ruined with my horrendous overdubs. Good thing that they are in digital so they can be cleaned up. I left feeling amazed of the songs Jukka had recorded by himself. it was past midnight when I stumbled into home trying not wake anyone up or tip anything over with my guitar case.

The Time is exactly two ours later 01 19 im done for the day.

12 5 may 01 47
oh yes this was fun

Forgot to mention that we were booted out of the once per week room today for playing too loud, the people having their electric physics(maybe, well something anyway...) test were not apparently thrilled on my airplane and sirens and bomb imitations. we get to go there again next week( if we want to...)

the clock is 01 37 may 12 but ill date it before my last post. didnt work, ill just add to it...

To Infinity and Beyond !

Life less ordinary, from now on. . . [09 May 2005|11:49pm]
I got a ipod shuffle today from my dad . Im feeling pretty stoked about tomorrow, cause the one time ive previously listened to music on headphones, I almost got hit by a car. Because the feelings i get from being surrounded by music are so overwhelming.

Today i chiseled a new bridge for an old acoustic guitar , and I spent most of the day being pissed off. Because I have
to communicate with some proper annoying people . and also i flunked my entry to the glorious world of architecture. but what amazes me is that I havent got any feelings about it, no regret, no sadness no happiness, nothing. Which is something I like ,because I tend to brood on stupid things that i havent got any control of anyway.

I feel a little bad because Ive spent the last three days trying to persuade my friend outside to play music eventhough he has this massive exams week going on at his school. But he is one of those wonderful people who can put work over fun, which is something i plan on getting better at.

ive written down most of my life (at least the bits i do remember) since the previous entry ,and am gonna write them here when i find the time, also i got some pictures of my seahorse woodsculpture from the window where it was on exhibition(Thank you dear Sister !). Which ill post when i learn how to use photobucket.

Ill disappear now and come back some other time.

My weekend... [23 Apr 2005|11:52pm]

Here I am creating myself a journal to see how my thoughts evolve over time. Or to write down if anything interesting happens.

Anyway I ve been trying to do the required assignments to get to the entrance exams of the architectural school. this is harder than it

may seem because I lack the self discipline to do long term studying... well ... onto things i like. last week i repaired my friends

guitar ,which had a broken neck , well this great luthier Wege did most of the work, but it was a good learning experience, also i finished

my carved wood seahorse and was pleased enough with the result. Uh oh I must get going cause my time is up.
